Consultation / Town Centre Traffic Regulation Order Consultation

In June, we ran a consultation to gather views from residents, businesses, and visitors on how travel is managed in Ramsgate town centre under the existing Traffic Regulation Order. The consultation sought feedback on issues such as vehicle access, enforcement, road surfaces, signage, safety for pedestrians and cyclists, and practical challenges faced by businesses and residents, with the aim of identifying problems and potential solutions to inform Kent County Council’s review of the Traffic Regulation Order.
Ramsgate Town Council (RTC) would like to extend its sincere thanks to all residents, businesses, and visitors who took part in the recent public consultation on the Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) affecting Ramsgate town centre.
The consultation received a significant number of responses, reflecting the strong interest in how traffic is managed in the heart of our town. Many respondents shared their views on the current TRO, identifying both successes and challenges that need to be addressed.

- Access for essential services (Kent County Council) – 11 mentions
- Road and kerb maintenance (Kent County Council) – 8 mentions

Next Steps
Ramsgate Town Council will now:
- Compile and submit the consultation findings to Kent County Council (KCC), Thanet District Council (TDC), and Kent Police, highlighting the key areas that need attention.
- Work with KCC to review the TRO and explore potential amendments to improve safety, accessibility, and traffic flow in the town centre.
- Engage with enforcement authorities to improve compliance with current restrictions while longer-term solutions are considered.
Chair of the Planning & Infrastructure Committee, Councillor Makinson said: "
We are very grateful to everyone who shared their views on this important issue. Your feedback gives us a clear picture of where the TRO is working and where changes are needed. We will ensure these concerns are raised with the relevant authorities to deliver practical improvements for our town centre."
