Consultation / 20's Plenty - Nethercourt 2021

The longest possible journey through the Nethercourt Estate, from Nethercourt Hill to Canterbury Road East, is about 1 mile. At 30 mph, the current speed limit, this would take 2 minutes. At 20 mph, it will take 3 minutes.
Against that, the benefits of reduced speeds in residential areas are well rehearsed, they lower pollution, lower noise, reduce both the number and severity of accidents, and increase the use of spaces by both pedestrians and cyclists. The construction of the roads in Nethercourt, makes them particularly noisy. Increasingly we are finding that large vehicles are using routes through the Estate to avoid the roundabout at the Canterbury Road / Nethercourt Hill junction.
A recent informal survey of Nethercourt Residents placed reducing speed limits on our residential roads, more trees on the estate and a café/meeting place as by far the most popular wants. Reducing speed limits was easily most popular.
Ramsgate Town Council has adopted the support of 20mph limits on all residential streets and supports proceeding with the Nethercourt Estate if residents show support.
Kent County Council have estimated costs of about £6,500 including £3,800 for a Traffic Regulation Order and £1,700 for signage. Both of our Kent County Councillors have expressed their support. The County Council have conducted a traffic survey. Conducted between Wednesday 5 May 2021 and Tuesday 11 May 2021.

They conclude that the average estate driver would be affected little by the scheme as they already travel at 20mph or there abouts. Through traffic on Nethercourt Farm Road and Rydal Avenue would need to reduce speed. However, on most roads, 15% of traffic is travelling at 30mph or greater and would need to curb their speeds.
The good news is that KCC say that a scheme could be introduced without the need for additional traffic calming.
All we need to proceed is evidence of majority support from residents, and of course the finance.
This survey has now concluded and ran during the summer of 2021, starting in July and ending in August. Thank you to all that have participated (84 people). As of 24 August 2021, 71% of responses (60 people) support the scheme and 29% are against (24 people).
