The old fire station in Effingham Street is becoming a busy centre with a host of different activities. This year, we have been focusing on helping local initiatives to get started, which can serve many residents depending on their interests.
Currently, we host sessions for the Ramsgate Horticultural Society, a new Repair Café and Town Shed, as well as weekly sessions for natural voice singing, Chat Time, Cancer Support and Manspace. The sessions are all open for people to drop in: there’s no need to book.
The fire engine hall is a great space for events. We are very excited to be welcoming back the Charity Catwalk Show on Saturday June 22. It launched last year, set up by photographer Mike Morrison and working with all of Ramsgate’s seven charity shops: British Red Cross, Pilgrim’s Hospices, Cat in Crisis, Shelter, Cancer Research UK, TAG Pet Rescue and RSPCA. Julie Forsythe was our compere. It’s all about bringing glamour to the high street and showing that everyone can be a model. Each shop has asked customers if they’ll join the catwalk for the night and help to display outfits and accessories selected by the shops, with all sorts of themes from party to beachwear. On the night you can bid for the items you’d like to take home. There’s also a new ‘create an outfit’ competition, making something unique from a charity shop item – open to all! The event carries over to Sunday June 23, when the hall becomes a Rummage Sale with the shops and local people bringing things to sell.
We love meeting new people and helping to make events a success. We have rooms to hire for teaching, exercise and meetings as well as the hall for events of all types. Contact Suzy at radford.events@ramsgatetc.org.uk or find us on Facebook and Instagram.
