Mayor of Ramsgate / Alderman Thomas Sinclair Chayney
Years Elected: 1915, 1916
History:
Founded firm of Chayney and Company. Scalemakers and had been
a resident of Ramsgate for 45 years.
Elected to town council in 1905 and became an alderman in 1916.
Mayor 1915 and 1916 during which time with the help of his wife
developed the scheme to provide clothes for troops.
As Mayor his chief interests were the Health department and
Welfare of children in the town.
Chairman of watch committee and was deputy Mayor 5 times.
Also a member of the K.C.C.
Retired in 1932 after serving 27 years. December 1932 was made
a Freeman of the Borough.
Prominent Freemason, master at Lewises Lodge No's 1209 in 1908
and of the St. Lawrence Lodge No. 3350 in 1914. Founder of
Kingsgate Lodge No. 4882 in which he held office as almoner in
1935.
Left a widow, one son and two daughters.
Died in London in a masonic Hospital aged 77 on c4th October
1936.
