Mayor of Ramsgate / Captain Lawrence William Vaile
Years Elected: 1885, 1888, 1889
History:
Early years of his life he was in the Merchant Service, honour of being
younger brother of the Trinity House.
Arrived Ramsgate 1865, taking an interest in Town affairs, and in 1884
during the incorporation became one of the first Members of the council.
1. Elected as Mayor November 1885, retired from office, but was re-elected
two years later and retained the office of Chief Magistrate for 2 periods of
twelve months.
2. July 1st 1890 he was appointed a J.P. on the county bench; also a
member of the Cinque Ports bench.
3. 1907 Deputy of Cinque Ports.
Laboured on behalf of Ramsgate General Hospital and Seaman's Infirmary.
1880 Hon. Treasurer of R.G. and S.I. then vice-president and later president
of the same.
Manager of St. George's Schools.
His wife pre-deceased him they had one son.
Died 15th May 1917 at home, Sion Hill.
