John Walter Chapman

Home / Town Council / Mayor of Ramsgate / John Walter Chapman

Years Elected: 1914

History:
Declined to stand for a second term of office in 1915, because of
the exceptional demands that has been placed on him.

He attended on average four meetings per day which caused great
strain.

Involved to a large extent in the work of the Emergency committee,
concerned with the arrangements for the evacuation of the town,
and also to help with refugees.

He was also active in the administration of the Prince of Wale's fund.

Very much supported by the Mayoress Mrs. E.R. Dunn (his niece) who
worked for the benefit of women in the community.
