News / The Return of The San Clu!
The San Clu Hotel, Bar and Brasserie opened on Friday March 10, 2023 after being closed for refurbishment.
The hotel has recently changed ownership after the owner passed away, with his daughter's now taking ownership and investing in the hotel. They, along with Sarah Peace (General Manager) and Karen Nash (Deputy Manager) carried out his wishes to return the hotel to the original name of The San Clu Hotel after being named the Comfort Inn for 20 years. The San Clu is a part of the larger local community. The bar and brasserie are open to everyone.
It was originally called the hotel St Cloud. Viewing the hotel from the beach it looked like it was in the clouds. The pronunciation was French style "San Clu" but due to the local population calling it Saint Cloud, the spelling was changed so it sounded phonetically correct.
The San Clu has been operating as a hotel since 1887 and has accommodated many famous and infamous guests over the years, such as: Randolph Churchill, Benny Hill, Norman Wisdom, Sir Edward Heath, MP Jonathan Atkin, Jeremy Beadle, Archbishops Long, Fisher, Ramsey and Coggan, as well as Royal visits from the Belgium, Danish and Thai Royal Families.
Salvatore Bovino (Restaurant Manager), pictured with his team, looks forward to welcoming you.
