03 April 2023

The local charity, with its head office in Ramsgate, is gearing up for a host of celebrations and fundraising activities, as East Kent Mencap marks its 75th anniversary.

East Kent Mencap’s Spring Forward fundraising campaign launches in April, as part of the anniversary celebrations. People with a learning disability are taking up individual challenges to learn new skills and grow in confidence, while raising awareness and funds for the charity, so that people can achieve the things they want out of life.

Fundraising Manager, Jane Brooke, said:This is a major milestone in the history of East Kent Mencap as we celebrate our 75th anniversary together. We are very excited to launch our Spring Forward fundraising campaign. It couldn’t be more relevant today, as we continue to support people with a learning disability to enjoy fitness and well-being activities and most importantly, to challenge themselves.

Every person’s Spring Forward challenge will be unique, from learning to crochet or completing the ‘Couch to 5K’ in recognition and celebration of their individuality.
To coincide with the 75th anniversary, East Kent Mencap members chose to design a range of colourful branded t-shirts.

East Kent Mencap Member, Amy, explained:I designed the t-shirt which features a beautiful rainbow. These t-shirts are an important way for us to support the great work of East Kent Mencap and we will wear them with pride.

The t-shirts will raise awareness for the charity and vital money to continue East Kent Mencap’s work to support people with a learning disability. They are available for purchase and £3 from every sale goes directly to the charity.

The charity has a range of activities and celebrations planned throughout the year and has set an ambitious fundraising target of £3,000.
