Key updates from the Extraordinary Town Council Meeting held on Wednesday 28th September 2022

  • Councillor Tony Ovenden was co-opted to the Council, representing the Sir Moses Montefiore Ward, by unanimous vote.

  • A grant of £3,396 was awarded to the Great British Carnival (formerly the Ramsgate Town Carnival) for twenty-six percussion instruments, which will contribute towards creation of a sustainable community drumming band “Samba Ya Wansum” that will be based in Ramsgate and will support many local events.

  • The report from the external auditor (appointed by the Audit Commission) on the Council’s accounts for the year ended 31st March 2022 was received. The Council is pleased to report the following findings “On the basis of our review of Sections 1 and 2 of the Annual Governance & Accountability Return (AGAR), in our opinion the information in Sections 1 and 2 of the AGAR is in accordance with Proper Practices and no other matters have come to our attention giving cause for concern that relevant legislation and regulatory requirements have not been met”.

  • A grant of £1,520 was awarded to the Salvation Army to pay for the ‘soup run’ for 16 weeks. The Salvation Army will also be encouraged to keep the Council informed about the challenges that the organisation will face this winter supporting those in need in the community.

  • The job description for an external Community Engagement and Events Administrator was approved, this person will organise events and activities at Radford House, prior to the building being refurbished. By using the building now, it will help us explore how the building can be used in the future and inform the long-term business plan.
