26 May 2022

  • After the Annual Council Meeting (at which the Mayor & Chair are elected) it’s customary to confirm various appointments for the ensuing year and the following was approved:

    • Councillor Green will Chair (Councillor Austin as Vice Chair) the Finance & General Purposes Committee.

    • Councillor Makinson will Chair (Councillor Albon as Vice Chair) the Planning & Infrastructure Committee.

    • Councillor Crittenden will Chair (Vice Chair to be confirmed at a subsequent meeting) the Town Promotion Committee.

    • Councillor Nixey will Chair (Councillor Green as Vice Chair) the group that will deal with Radford House (it’s still to be confirmed if this will be a working group or committee).

The confirmed Terms of Reference for these committees can be found on our website.

  • The Council’s grant of £20,000 to the Citizens Advice Bureau will be used to employ an Advice Session Supervisor.

  • There will be 40 palms put out around the town centre and harbour, 20 new palms and 20 of the old palms. The Council also has 17 very old palms that are no longer in a good enough condition to be on public display; consideration will be given as to a new home for these.

  • A grant of £3,750 was awarded to support the return of 24 Dunkirk Little Ships during the Platinum Jubilee Weekend celebrations.

  • The Council discussed a variety of options for a Jubilee Forest; which includes options to purchase land for tree planting and to plant trees on existing public land. The Council is going to get professional advice regarding the value of three parcels of land currently in private ownership and consider how to proceed.
