News / Key Updates - Finance and General Purposes Committee Meeting
- A “Low Value Asset Disposal & Write Off Policy” was approved; the Council has a surplus of equipment that is no longer required, this policy approved how this can be disposed of, ensuring value for money where possible and also the means to gift some items to community groups that might be will make good use of them (i.e. tools and strimmers).
- A plan for seasonal markets at Charlotte Court is progressing, a legal matter around what the land can be used for (it must always remain open to the public) was clarified, a proposal for how to manage the markets will now be drafted.
- A draft plan for various Platinum Jubilee events in the town centre and Harbour was considered and confirmed. Details of which will be advertised nearer to the event.
- An external review of staffing salaries and job descriptions (undertaken by the Local Council Consultancy Service, a not-for-profit arm of the Society of Local Council Clerks) has been completed and raft of changes will be implemented to ensure that the Council has the right staff in the right places to implement the strategic aims of the Council, and the staff are paid a fair wage and have training & development opportunities. The Council takes pride in the achievements, team spirit and work ethic of its staff, and this exercise was intended to ensure that the staff continue to have the support required to undertake the work of the council to the best of their abilities.
This is not a summary of everything covered at this meeting, please see the official Minutes for the legal record of the meeting. The meeting can also be watched on our YouTube channel.
The above is intended to provide a snapshot of matters that may be of particular interest to residents.
It is also noted that although the town council is a statutory consultee on planning matters, it is Thanet District Council that has the decision making powers.
