News / The Royal Temple Yacht Club welcomes all!
Since 1896 the imposing building of the Royal Temple Yacht Club has stood on the hill overlooking the harbour, but very few have seen the equally impressive insides.
Recently there has been a change of leadership from the Commodore, Flag Officers and Committee down and all want the club to become a more inclusive venue as part of the vibrant town that Ramsgate is becoming.
A change of license means that there is no longer a requirement to become a club member first to enjoy a drink in the bar or from our balcony with its stunning views. You can come in and sample the atmosphere and the ale, in fact you are welcome to come along any time we are open. A quick glance at our flagpole during the daytime will confirm if the bar is open, as in line with Naval tradition we fly our club burgee and the Blue Ensign during daylight opening hours.
The Royal Charter was granted to the Club in 1897 when the then Commodore Baron de Rothschild used to be accompanied to the Club’s formal dinners by his friend the Prince of Wales. And the Admiralty Warrant to allow the Club to wear the Blue Ensign, and its members to fly the Blue Ensign on their yachts, was granted a year later in 1898, the same year that the Ramsgate Week regatta started.
In recent years, many visitors have been able to enjoy a stay in our hotel rooms, attracting 4.5 stars on Tripadvisor, and conference rooms are available to hire. Our visitors have loved staying in a place where the Queen has visited, where Steve Fossett, a former club member started and finished his Round Britain sailing record in Playstation 2, and where Dame Ellen MacArthur allowed herself to be raffled off as a prize as crew in Ramsgate Week.
From May 1, the Club will be open every day from 12:30pm until late and on a Friday evening there will always be something on with an informal games evening on the 2nd Friday and live music on the 4th Friday of each month.
You don’t have to be a member now to come in sample what we offer and on joining there are direct benefits from becoming a full member. We are also offering a discounted trial membership for your first year. We look forward to welcoming you all.
