A Message from Councillor Raushan Ara

01 May 2022

I am looking forward to summer this year, as there will be a celebration of the Queen's Platinum Jubilee, with street parties all over the UK.

In January, we held an outdoor commemorative service for Holocaust Memorial Day at Albion Gardens. This was attended by many multi-faith groups. Special thanks to our local Jewish community, Rabbi Cliff, Helen Cohen and the Thanet District Reform Synagogue Chair, Godfrey Fischer, for their ongoing support. The service was also live streamed for the first time. A massive thank you to Captain Carl Whitewood of the Ramsgate Salvation Army and his team for making this possible. Also, to Theresa Smith for her art creation on the main sands - #HMD2022, all those who attended the photoshoot, and to Ant Wright Videography for the wonderful drone picture and video - https://youtu.be/sENWhP3gfQQ.

I also attended the 80th commemoration of the Channel Dash at Manston. My sincere thanks go out to everyone involved in making this event possible.

We are aware of the on-street parking problems in the town. I am afraid that this is an ongoing issue. If you are finding this is a problem, please take a photograph of the vehicle, with the number plate, and report it to Thanet District Council (TDC). TDC is planning a Thanet-wide parking review shortly.

I am very pleased to share with you that my monthly litter picking events have been so well attended, and that the message concerning litter has been spreading.

I am amazed by the number of requests that I receive from local residents asking for donations of litter pickers, so that they can organise litter picks in their own areas. This will help to keep our town tidy and clean, and a place that visitors will want to return to.

It was my pleasure to attend the Friends of Ellington Park litter picking event, along with quite a few of our volunteers, where I donated some more litter pickers. As always, our wonderful Ramsgate Town Council technicians, Maxine and Shaun, were there to support us.

Finally, my sincere thanks to my PA, Kim Hobbs, and the former Town Sergeant, Mac Wilkinson, for their hard work and ongoing support for me.

I am always available for my residents. If any of you have any issues, please contact me and I will do my best to help resolve them.
