07 September 2021

Our lovely Ramsgate Royal Harbour is the ONLY Royal harbour in the country, thanks to HM King George IV who bestowed the honour on Ramsgate in recognition of the wonderful hospitality he received on passing through the town two hundred years ago.

His visits are well documented in “The Royal Harbour of Ramsgate” written by Janet Munslow. Being Ramsgate born and bred myself, I am really looking forward to the celebrations planned for the bi-centenary in September. The programme of events looks very exciting indeed with something for everyone to enjoy.

A magnificent bronze statue of King George IV has been sculpted by the late great Dominic Grant and once completed will grace the harbour, hopefully by next year. Any donations are gratefully received, you can visit the official website at www.ramsgate2021.co.uk to find out more information.

Please make every effort to come and enjoy the celebrations, I certainly intend to!
I would like to thank Mr. Ramsgate himself, Ralph Hoult for organising the event, Ramsgate Town Council, Thanet Trust, Thanet District Council and Blueberry Homes for all their support and all the fundraisers, sponsors and dedicated volunteers who are making this much anticipated event happen.

Thank you.
Enjoy!
