It's design competition time for students aged 18 and under! Ramsgate Town Council is pleased to announce that a gate operation system will be installed at the entrance to Harbour Street between the hours of 10am and 5pm and the council would like your help to design a gate fitting for this space.
The competition brief is to design a 2-part gate that will be approximately 4metres wide and 1.25metre high to welcome people into our pedestrian shopping zone. The gate design should reflect that it will be installed in a conservation area and is close to our Royal Harbour. The competition is open to anyone aged 18 and under who lives in Thanet.
The winning entry will receive £250 cash prize and also have the opportunity to work with the professional designer and see their design fabricated in the factory (subject to parent or guardian’s permission).
Closing date for entries is 15th May 2021 at midday and the winner will be announced on social media and on the Town council website on 2nd June 2021.
Ramsgate Town Council (RTC) is pleased to announce that a gate operation system will be installed at the entrance to Harbour Street between the hours of 10am and 5pm and the council would like your help to design a gate fitting for this space.
The competition brief is to design a 2-part gate that will be approximately 4metres wide and 1.25metres high for the entrance of Harbour Street Ramsgate. It will be in 2 sections (each section approximately 2metres x 1.25metres). The competition is open to anyone 18 and under living in Thanet. The barrier gate will be constructed of metal and will have fixings in the centre where each section meets in the middle to open and close it with ease. The fixings do not need to be included in your design concept.
Ideas to consider with your design
The area that the gate will be installed is within a conservation area
and is approximately 40metres away from the only Royal Harbour in the UK. The design may include text or other features including animate or inanimate objects. The design must be entirely that of the competition entrant and in entering the competition, RTC will assume this to be the case.
The designs will be assessed by a panel of local judges including Members of Ramsgate Town Council, Ramsgate Society and Ramsgate Town Team. The design will be fabricated by a local company, chosen by RTC, who will also be invited to judge the shortlisted entries.
The design does not have to be professionally and digitally mastered. The council reserves the right not to choose any design if the standard of designs are not deemed suitable for the location.
If a design is chosen through this competitive process, the winning entrant will receive £250 cash prize and see their design fabricated and installed plus be given the opportunity to work with the professional designer. Only the winning entrant will be notified of their successful entry.
Closing date for entries is 15th May 2021 at midday and the winner will be announced within 7 days (by 22nd May) on social media and the Town council website (on or before 22nd May 2021). Permission to enter the competition will be required from a parent or legal guardian (this can be done when sending entries via email or post by the responsible adult stating that they permit the student to enter). The winner reserves the right to object to being mentioned on social media or any other public platform. The winner will be notified 2 days prior to the official announcement and will receive their prize money on or before 2nd June 2021. If permission is given, we would like to include a photo of the winner and their parent/guardian in the social media campaign.
The designer will retain copyright but RTC will be licensed to use the design to construct the gate for Harbour Street and may use the design in future constructions. RTC will reserve the right to modify the winning design if necessary so that it is fit for purpose. By entering this competition, the entrant agrees that RTC maintains a licence to use the winning design in perpetuity.
RTC has the right, at its sole discretion and at any time, to change or modify these terms and conditions, such change shall be effective immediately upon posting to this webpage.
RTC reserves the right to cancel the competition if circumstances arise outside of its control and if the competition is cancelled this will be announced on social media.
Please send your design entries to firstname.lastname@example.org

Please include your name, age and parent’s/guardian’s contact details including home and email address, daytime phone/mobile number. Hard copies sent by mail will not be returned to the entrant and RTC cannot confirm receipt of entries.
