Ramsgate Harbour 28.10.2013
I am struggling to find the words that best describe the previous twelve months which have to go down as the worst in most of our lifetimes! The best I can do is to say I hope everyone is bearing up, staying safe and not suffering the consequences of the impact this virus has had, whether that is in health or wealth.

I know that many of us have suffered however and hope that if you have needed support, you have been able to reach out and receive the help you have asked for. Please do get in touch if you are still finding it difficult to access support, whatever that might be, and I will endeavour to put you in contact with the right person or department.

Late 2020 and early 2021 has seen some positive news for Ramsgate. We know that we have been successful in receiving central government funding to support our town centre through the Future High Street Fund and Historic High Street Fund, which will be spent over the next few years to improve the access to the town from the harbour and support restoration of some of our historic buildings in the town centre, which will hopefully encourage more visitors and potential investors. We have other bid funding applications being submitted as well, which will hopefully see more regeneration in the town.

2021 is also the 200th anniversary of the harbour receiving Royal Status which, if all goes to plan, will be celebrated with much pomp in the autumn including the unveiling of the incredible nine foot bronze statue, created by the late Dominic Grant who lovingly sculpted the statue as a gift to the town. For more information on this project and how to donate to the bronzing of the sculpture, please visit www.ramsgate2021.co.uk.

I am of course, hopeful that more of our regular events will take place this year and by the time you read this, we should have a clearer idea on how the virus is affecting our daily lives and what restrictions we are likely to see over the forthcoming weeks and months but in the meantime, I hope you have a happy Easter break and here’s to a glorious summer!
