News / New Green Initiative in Ramsgate
East Kent Mencap’s ScrapStore in Ramsgate is an exciting green initiative that looks to reduce waste in Thanet. The ScrapStore will encourage people to reduce, reuse and recycle by taking in safe, clean ‘scrap’ craft products so that re-usable items are saved from landfill. The craft supplies are available at affordable prices for others to use to get creative. It is run by members of the charity who have a learning disability, and all art supplies have been donated.
The ScrapStore is at East Kent Mencap’s Foresters Hall in Ramsgate and is currently only open by appointment, but they are also doing regular livestreams on Instagram to showcase their stock. Anyone can request a box with their choice of art supplies for a suggested donation of £5. Simply send an email Amy of the sort of scraps you require:
amy.johnson@eastkentmencap.co.uk. All donations will be invested back into the ScrapStore.
The ScrapStore at East Kent Mencap provides work experience and volunteer opportunities for people with a learning disability, enabling them to build a portfolio of employment skills with a view to finding paid work.
We aim for the ScrapStore to bring together people who have a learning disability and members of the public, to promote the skills and creativity of the members of East Kent Mencap.
The ScrapStore is currently seeking sofas, chairs and unwanted craft supplies to help us set up this initiative. If you are, or know, someone who is getting rid of sofas, chairs, or craft supplies, please do get in touch – we may be able to collect! Please email
funds@eastkentmencap.co.uk if you can help. Thank you so much!
