/ Great ideas for taking your daily exercise in Ramsgate
Life has changed as we know it over the last few months, but one thing we can all do is ensure we keep fit and healthy during this time.
As Ramsgate residents, there’s no better time to re-connect with the area and our rugged coastline and its abundance of wildlife and natural wonders.
So when planning your daily exercise from your base in Ramsgate, don’t forget that Active Ramsgate - an initiative of Ramsgate Town Council celebrating the great outdoors – has four great walking trails, the Viking Coastal Trail cycle route and other outdoor activities.
All walks are available to download on the Active Ramsgate website
free of charge.
The Contra Trail - Ramsgate to Pegwell Bay
A Royal Harbour with the common touch. An English monument to a Viking invasion. A nature reserve you’ll want to shout about. This is a trail that’s brimming with fascinating contradictions.
Distance: 6.1 miles (9.8km) one-way including Nature Reserve loop
Sea It All - Ramsgate to Broadstairs
If you enjoy the sea, you will love this coast hugging, cliff topping, café cruising circuit. This route goes the extra mile to delight and surprise. From the beautiful Italian Gardens to the breath taking views across Viking Bay.
Distance: 5 miles (8km) circular
Ramsgate Town Rounders - Regency, Royal & Riviera
With two circuits, Town Rounders is definitely a path worth following from your own door if you live in the historic town of Ramsgate.
Distance: Loop 1 - 1.4 miles (2.3km); Loop 2 - 2 miles (3.2km)
Beach Roamer - Ramsgate to Margate
A beautiful beach ramble, taking in the best of the Isle of Thanet’s coastline from the Royal Harbour of Ramsgate, right around the corner of the English coastline to the vibrant seaside town of Margate. This route takes in no less than nine bays, and stunning cliffs interspersed with wild flowers and vegetation – truly one of the most stunning walks in Kent.
Distance: 6.8 miles (11km) one-way
Just two Thanet beaches out of the usual 10 will have lifeguard cover this Summer.
Lifeguards started covering Viking Bay from May 30 and Margate followed on June 20.
But Ramsgate, Botany Bay, Joss Bay, Stone Bay, Westbrook, St Mildred’s, West Bay and Minnis Bay beaches will have no cover under the current arrangements.
One of the best ways to keep fit and get back to basics and being close to nature is by cycling along the Viking Coastal Trail
. A cycle with the wind whipping through your hair is enough to brush off the cobwebs.
You can cycle just parts of this trail from your home in Ramsgate.
