RNLI - Betty’s 5p Pot Scheme

Home / About Ramsgate / News / RNLI - Betty’s 5p Pot Scheme

17 October 2019

This simple, yet effective fundraising idea originated from the RNLI Hertford Branch and is named after the originator, Betty Frith.

Betty’s 5p Pots uses recycled mini jam/preserve jars which people fill with 5p coins and once full, return the jar donating the contents to the RNLI. This is an effective way of fundraising, promoting the RNLI and making new links with the Local Community.

The RNLI Ramsgate Branch started this scheme in Ramsgate and Broadstairs this year. It has been a huge success. Local businesses have very kindly volunteered to be host locations from where free Betty’s 5p Pots can be picked up from and full Pots can be returned. Similarly our Fundraising Events have made the Pots available to everybody in attendance.

We broke through the ‘£500 raised’ barrier during August and have just broke the '£1,000 raised' on October 16, which is a fantastic response from the very kind and generous people of Ramsgate and Broadstairs. This support is very much appreciated by all at RNLI Ramsgate Lifeboat and it helps us to keep saving lives at sea.

Our host locations are currently as follows:
Nice Things, Harbour Street, Ramsgate.
RNLI Ramsgate Shop, The Custom House, Ramsgate.
York Street Gallery, York Street, Ramsgate.
You Vape, Queen Street, Ramsgate.
RNLI Broadstairs Kiosk, Harbour Street, Broadstairs.
Expressions of Broadstairs, High Street, Broadstairs.
Hairdayz, High Street, St. Peter’s.

We are always on the lookout for further host locations in Ramsgate, Broadstairs and the outlying villages. If any local business would like to get involved please contact us, using the details below.

We are very grateful for the support given to us by Local Businesses in supplying the empty pots, the host locations and the very generous people in our area. THANK YOU.
