A Message from the Mayor of Ramsgate

Mayor of Ramsgate Raushan 2019
Ramsgate is a diverse and vibrant town, as well as being designated a Heritage Action Zone, with huge advantages such as the Royal Harbour; an amazing beach; Ramsgate Tunnels, and its rich artistic and architectural history. As your Mayor, I want to promote our wonderful town and have been acting as host for visiting Mayors, many of whom had never visited Ramsgate and all have commented on how lovely our town is.

The last few months have been incredibly busy and educational. I would like to thank local residents for the warm welcome and support they have shown me at all the events I have attended.

One of my first engagements was with Stagecoach, regarding the launch of their Audio/Visual announcements on the buses. I was absolutely delighted to be invited to the launch of their new buses. Once again, I would like to congratulate Stagecoach on their innovative move in training their drivers in sign language.

I have also held several fundraising events with the support of my Charity Committee, who have been working tirelessly to ensure these events are successful, and I would like to use this opportunity to thank all the members of my team for their hard work in raising money for my chosen charities, which are: East Kent Mencap (Foresters Hall), RNLI, Street Trees for Ramsgate, and the Winter Shelter. So far, the generous people of Ramsgate have raised £3000.

Given the recent increase of homelessness, the support and services the Winter Shelter provides are going to be more vital than ever before. I shall be attending several more fundraising events prior to Christmas, if you wish to join in with any of these events, details will be made available through The Custom House and online via social media and the website.

Finally, as Christmas is approaching, I would like to extend Seasons Greetings to all Ramsgate residents. As your Mayor, I want to re-affirm my commitment to bring our community together and encourage inclusiveness and co-operation between all walks of life.

I hope for a happy, peaceful and prosperous New Year for us all.
