Weekly Security Patrol Update – Ramsgate Town Centre

Home / About Ramsgate / News / Weekly Security Patrol Update – Ramsgate Town Centre

12 April 2026

Ramsgate Town Council continues to receive daily patrol logs, photos and body-worn camera footage from the Probe Security officers working in the town centre. These weekly updates help keep residents and businesses informed about the issues being dealt with on the ground and how the patrols are supporting the community.

What our security officers did this week

High-visibility patrols during busy periods

  • Officers maintained a strong presence throughout the town centre during particularly busy market days, including regular patrols of the High Street, harbour, seafront and surrounding parks.
  • Public toilets were checked frequently and remained open and safe during high footfall periods.
  • Gates to the pedestrianised area were opened and closed as required to reduce the number of vehicles driving into restricted areas.

Responding to serious incidents and supporting emergency services

  • Officers provided immediate first aid to a member of the public who had fallen and sustained a head injury, remaining with them until paramedics arrived.
  • Officers supported Kent Police during arrests following ongoing shoplifting and disorder, including the enforcement of banning orders.
  • Several incidents involving highly aggressive behaviour, street fighting and intoxicated individuals were managed, de-escalated and kept under control until police intervention was possible.

Tackling shoplifting and protecting businesses

  • Officers responded to repeated radio calls from shops including Poundland, Boots, Iceland and Waitrose regarding shoplifting and aggressive behaviour towards staff.
  • In several cases, stolen items were recovered and returned to shops.
  • CCTV images and photographs were shared with businesses to help identify repeat offenders and support ongoing police action.
  • Shop staff provided positive feedback on the officers’ presence, particularly during busy times and when incidents risked escalating.

Managing anti-social behaviour

  • Officers dealt with multiple groups drinking in public spaces, especially in Charlotte Court, Ellington Park and the seafront area.
  • Groups involved in shouting, intimidation, threatening behaviour or harassing others were spoken to and, where necessary, dispersed.
  • Youth groups causing nuisance, riding scooters or bikes dangerously, or intimidating members of the public were closely monitored and moved on.

Environmental issues and public safety

  • Officers recorded and reported significant environmental problems, including fly-tipping, dumped furniture, broken benches, damaged fencing and rubbish accumulation.
  • Damage to public spaces and street furniture was photographed and logged to support clean-up and repair action.
  • Hazardous situations were addressed immediately, including asking people to move from unsafe ledges and intervening where vehicles, scooters or e-bikes were being used dangerously in pedestrian areas.

Reassurance and community engagement

  • Officers spent time speaking with residents, park users, market traders and business owners, with many people expressing appreciation for their reassurance and visibility.
  • Vulnerable individuals were checked on regularly and supported where needed, with officers balancing public safety with a calm and compassionate approach.

A reminder to residents and businesses

The security patrols are in place to provide reassurance, deter anti-social behaviour and support the town centre — but they do not replace Kent Police.

All crimes, assaults, thefts and emergencies must still be reported directly to Kent Police via 999 or 101.

Look out for our next update next week!
