Tips for Energy Bills

05 January 2026

As the cost of living keeps going up, we all need to cut our costs where we can. The good news is that living more sustainably usually means living more cheaply - whether that's buying your fruit and veg loose from the market rather than wrapped in plastic from the supermarket or travelling short distances on foot or by bike rather than getting the car out.

At this time of year, energy bills are on all our minds. There are lots of resources online offering help and advice on keeping your energy costs down, so do search for 'cutting home energy costs' and see what you can find out. We especially like Friends of the Earth's site, 50 Tips to Save Money on your Energy Bills, which is full of good ideas - particularly if you're considering replacing an appliance or making changes to your setup at home.

We'd also recommend giving Thanet District Council's Home Energy Team a call on 01843 577288 for advice on grants for insulation, boiler replacement, solar panels and other energy-saving and cost-saving measures in your home. They have so much information on hand that can help, whether you own your own home or you're renting - and they can help landlords too.
