Looping the Loop, a Performing Arts company, has been running a fantastic project called Social Singing Sessions. After a successful run in Ramsgate, we’ve now moved to Westgate-on-Sea, continuing to bring the joy of singing to different parts of Thanet. The sessions, which are free, are held at the Westgate-on-Sea Cricket Pavilion on Saturday mornings from 10:30am to 12pm, and will run until 7th December.
Led by our producer, Estelle Rosenfeld, Social Singing is all about giving people of all ages the chance to have fun, meet new people, and enjoy the uplifting power of using your voice. Whether you’re a seasoned singer or someone who hasn’t sung in years (or ever!), these sessions are for everyone. Meg Bird, an experienced singer, leads the sessions, guiding participants through exercises and melodies to build a joyful singing community. If you’re unable to attend in person, you can still join us online from the comfort of your own home.
"
Singing can have such an amazing impact on wellbeing. The physical and social effects of singing in a group, especially, can leave you feeling on top of the world. In these sessions, no matter your level of experience, I’m building a little singing community and will send you off singing throughout the rest of the week,”
Meg shares.
Looping the Loop are running Social Singing as part of a national project called Know Your Neighbourhood, funded by Creative Lives and HM Government. Participants come from across Thanet. The group at East Kent Mencap is led by musical theatre star Philip Quigley, and there’s been great fun all round, creating moves to go with the songs, with a favourite one being their own 70s medley.
Fiona Wonford – GOLD Delivery Manager at East Kent Mencap, shared her observations: "
They have been talking to peers and staff about how great it is and how they feel much more confident about joining in."
We’re spreading the love across Thanet’s towns and villages, but we hope to be back in Ramsgate in the new year.
If you’d like to join in, simply drop by on a Saturday morning at Westgate-on-Sea Cricket Pavilion, or contact us via
