News / East Kent Mencap Fashion Show
Watch East Kent Mencap's Ramsgate Hub drama group showcase fashion through the decades, with dancing and music, followed by a Pre-loved Clothes Sale with bargains galore!
The Fashion Show is on Tuesday August 20, 2024 at Holy Trinity Church, Margate, from 10:30am to 12:30pm, tickets are £4 each. The Pre-loved Clothes Sale is from 1pm to 3pm, tickets are £3 each.
All money raised at the event will go to supporting people with a learning disability, helping them to achieve what they want out of life.
East Kent Mencap Senior Support Worker, Maria said: “I am extremely proud of the drama group's hard work. They have been very busy rehearsing, learning dance routines, discovering what clothes and music were popular in each decade.
Exploring the history of fashion has been so insightful, but the most significant learning is the message of individuality and self-expression. It’s so important to encourage everyone to embrace their unique style rather than conform to fashion trends; you shouldn’t follow fashion to try and fit in. What is important is being you.
This project has also provided us with the valuable opportunity to raise awareness about sustainability and combating the culture of disposable throw-away fashion. Creating a positive attitude around re-use and minimising landfill waste has been such a good thing, that’s why we wanted to also host a Pre-loved Clothes Sale.”
A member of the Ramsgate Hub drama group at East Kent Mencap, Karen, said: "I am feeling very happy and proud to be in the fashion show. Everyone is enjoying the rehearsals and I can't wait for the show in August."
