Blue Bin Buddies Neighbourhood Recycling Scheme Update

Home / About Ramsgate / News / Blue Bin Buddies Neighbourhood Recycling Scheme Update

24 July 2024

Recycling rates are low in Thanet compared to most other areas. Thanet District Council (TDC) wants to improve the situation and is busy installing recycling bins on the coast and in town. The Council is also looking on a street-by-street basis to see what can be offered to the 22% of residents who still don’t have access to kerbside recycling.

Until that happens, we want to remind you about the Blue Bin Buddies scheme operating in Ramsgate, which aims to link up residents who don’t have their recycling collected by TDC with someone nearby who has spare space in their blue or red recycling containers.

Councillor Tricia Austin explains:We’re keeping a list of people without access to home recycling and putting them in touch with others living nearby who can offer spare space in their recycling containers. This started off as a pilot scheme in Central Harbour ward, but it’s now expanded. My blue bin is rarely full, so I’m delighted to be able to offer my friend Rebekah space in my bin for her recycling!

To sign up for the Blue Bin Buddies scheme, contact Tricia on cllr-tricia.austin@ramsgatetc.org.uk or ring her on 07775 794408.
