From cycling tours to paddleboards, boat trips to breath-taking trails – the Active Ramsgate project is back for 2024. Read on for what’s new and what’s to come...
It's been over a decade since Ramsgate Town Council launched its pioneering outdoor pursuits project, Active Ramsgate.
Since it started in 2013, the initiative has encouraged Ramsgate residents and visitors alike to make the most of the amazing outdoor activities we have on our doorstep – from walks and cycle routes which take in our incredible scenery, to paddleboarding and boat trips along our shores.
Now, we’re getting ready to deliver a refreshed offering of activities and events that we hope will kick-start the initiative in 2024 and get as many people in the local community involved as possible. So, what do we have in store...?
Active Ramsgate Week
We’re bringing back Active Ramsgate Week, which will take place from Sunday May 26 to Sunday June 2.
It will be a chance for everyone to try out some of the amazing range of outdoor activities on offer – with special discounts and sessions for residents throughout.
Each day will have a different theme from walking, cycling, water-sporting and exploring. Whether you’re a walker, two-wheeler or a wave-maker, there will be something for everyone.
We really hope the week will be a big celebration of our town and the fantastic outdoor opportunities it affords – so look out for community cycle rides, kids' colour runs, carnival parades and more.

New activities to come
Active Ramsgate has always been about showcasing the best of our town’s outdoor opportunities – and one of our biggest assets is the seaside and shore.
With that in mind, we’re keen to build on the water-sporting activities the town already offers (such as paddleboarding and boat trips).
One new activity we’re excited about is sea-swimming. Ramsgate is lucky enough to have two beaches and a strong community of committed sea-swimmers.
But for those who may not already be a confident dipper, we’ve been trialling introductory sessions with a qualified swimming coach, to help both residents and visitors to take to the water safely and enjoyably for the first time.
Our beaches are also a treasure trove for exploration – from the marine life hiding in the rock pools, to the fossils that tell the story of our natural history. We’re keen to expand on these exploring opportunities to bring more families to our shores.
Similarly, heritage is another strong suit of our town. Working with a local cycle tour company, we’re developing a new way to explore the town and area – from historical sites to the happening art scene.

Our aim is to make Active Ramsgate an initiative that all our residents can take part in, and take pride in.
We will keep developing the project to make the most of our town, and to support its people and businesses.
