Croquet - the ultimate green sport!

With our new season about to begin, what better time to introduce you to the environmentally friendly game of croquet? Croquet is the ideal ‘low impact’ sport. No expensive special equipment is required - mallets are provided and all you need is some flat soled shoes.

The 2024 season usually starts at the beginning of March - depending on the weather, of course. We are always keen to welcome new members to the club and would love you to come along to find out more about the game and to meet a friendly, welcoming bunch of croquet enthusiasts. We run free introductory sessions for people who want to give it a go and find out more about the game.

We are situated in a beautiful location on the Royal Esplanade overlooking the sea. Being in such a special setting, in terms of heritage, environment and leisure, the club is very conscious of its environmental and sustainability credentials. Members enjoy and respect the natural flora and fauna around the croquet lawns. We have tried hard over a number of years to reduce our impact on the environment by composting grass clippings in an area adjacent to the lawns, planting wildflowers, recycling and reducing food waste amongst many other initiatives.

Our club has four immaculately kept lawns and is regarded as one of the most beautiful settings in the country. We host our own events and competitions as well as major tournaments, attended by some of the highest-ranking players in the country and, indeed, the world.

Croquet is a lawn game of strategy and skill. Men and women play together - on equal terms - and it is enjoyed by all ages, abilities, and levels of experience. It’s an ideal game for people who might find certain sports more challenging but want to be active, get healthy, be out in the fresh air and meet new people.

We host social functions for visiting groups and organisations and have a lovely clubhouse complete with a licensed bar.
