News / Celebrating a Nautical Milestone: RNLI Lifeboat Welcome Event at Ramsgate
Greetings, everyone!
We are thrilled to announce a momentous occasion in the maritime history of Ramsgate - the arrival of our new RNLI Lifeboat, the Diamond Jubilee! Join us in extending a warm welcome to this impressive vessel on Saturday, November 11, as we gather at the iconic lighthouse at 1pm to witness its grand entrance into our Royal Harbour.
This marks a historic moment for Ramsgate, as the Diamond Jubilee becomes our first 'new' Lifeboat in 29 years. Its significance is accentuated by its larger size, distinguishing it from its predecessors and earning it the honour of replacing the esteemed Esme Anderson. As a Tamar class boat, the Diamond Jubilee holds the unique distinction of being the only Lifeboat in active service with a royal name, a fitting tribute to our status as the only Royal Harbour in the UK.
We invite you to be part of this auspicious occasion and join us at the lighthouse around 12:45pm to witness the arrival of the Diamond Jubilee. The spectacle promises to be awe-inspiring, with six other lifeboats, unless called for duty, flanking her entrance into the harbour.
To make this event even more special, we have 50 RNLI waving flags to share with the crowd, creating a sea of support for our new Lifeboat. For our younger attendees (and perhaps some young-at-heart), RNLI stickers will be distributed to those who display exemplary behaviour during the festivities.
Moreover, we are delighted to share that local businesses have rallied behind this celebration, pledging donations to RNLI Ramsgate in honour of this momentous occasion. It is heartening to witness the community coming together to support the vital work of the RNLI in ensuring the safety of our waters.
We extend our sincere gratitude to Rebekah Smith, our Town Centre and Tourism Manager, for spearheading this initiative. Rebekah has played a pivotal role in orchestrating this event, and her efforts are sure to make the welcome of the Diamond Jubilee a cherished memory for all in attendance.
So, mark your calendars, gather your friends and family, and join us at the lighthouse to cheer on the Diamond Jubilee as it sails into our Royal Harbour. Let's come together as a community to celebrate this remarkable addition to our maritime legacy and show our appreciation for the dedication and bravery of the RNLI.
