News / Radford House - a Community Hub
Ramsgate’s historic old fire station, built between 1715 - 1723, opened its doors earlier this year to welcome the local community and provide a friendly space for people to meet, events to take place and for micro-businesses to establish workspaces. Run by Ramsgate Town Council, we are fully accessible and around the corner from the main bus station and car parking.
The building will be renovated from early 2024, with essential repairs and works to ensure the spaces are decorated, that the character of the building is retained, and the spaces are attractive to our community. To start meeting people and finding out more about what you want, we launched a weekly Chat Time session. The fire engine hall is open with free entry every Tuesday from 10:30am – 1pm. It is open to all, there’s free tea, coffee, biscuits, and chat! Every other week, we have some sort of talk or presentation, it may just be someone talking about an experience they have had and sharing what made it exciting for them – in July we had Bob Pryor, who used to run the Blitz Walks, telling everyone about the Titanic and his experience of going down in a submersible to see the wreck – a life-changing opportunity for him. Recently Lindy the Plant Lady showed us how to grow succulent plants and grow new ones from each leaf.
If you, or a group you know, are looking for a nice town centre space to feel relaxed, meet other people and even find out about other things you can do in the town, drop by one Tuesday and join us for a cuppa. We’d love to meet you. And it is entirely free to take part.
If you are looking for somewhere to hold a talk, a meeting, an event (wedding, party, music or anything else) just get in touch and we’ll organise a show-around. Prices are very reasonable, and we work hard to make sure you have a good experience at the old fire station.
