News / East Kent Mencap joins forces with artist Carson Parkin-Fairley for 'Icons of Ramsgate' project celebrating local heroes
Local charity East Kent Mencap collaborates with artist Carson Parkin-Fairley with the new ‘Icons of Ramsgate’ project, funded by the Arts Council, which aims to elevate the stories of Ramsgate residents and shine a light on local heroes.
Carson Parkin-Fairley said: “
The project is an activity in self-celebration, confidence, and elevating our own stories, giving a sense of town pride for all involved.”
‘Icons of Ramsgate’ will engage three groups of local people in art workshops. These include East Kent Mencap, which support people with a learning disability, a creative youth charity The Pie Factory, and The Screaming Marys, a women’s social group.
Carson Parkin-Fairley added: “
All participants in the workshops will create icons of themselves. Members of the Ramsgate public will be asked to nominate someone in their life who deserves to be celebrated, and I will pick four of these at random and turn them into art pieces.”
Fiona Wonford, GOLD Project Manager, said: “
We are absolutely thrilled to contribute to the captivating 'Icons of Ramsgate' project, collaborating with the talented artist Carson Parkin-Fairley. The GOLD group is eagerly anticipating the forthcoming workshops."
