International Repair Day 2023

Today, 21 October 2023, marks International Repair Day - a significant occasion reminding us that opting for repairs over disposal and new purchases is not only cost-effective but also environmentally friendly! Across the globe, individuals are celebrating by either getting their possessions repaired or taking on the task themselves.

In Ramsgate, we boast an array of excellent independent repair shops proficient in fixing everything from mobile phones and laptops to bicycles and clothing. Ramsgate Town Council is currently compiling a Repair Map to spotlight these essential services. Additionally, we are in the process of establishing a Repair Café for the upcoming year. These Repair Cafes are an integral part of a grassroots movement striving to minimize waste. Run by volunteers, they serve as temporary hubs to assist individuals in carrying out minor, day-to-day repairs on their belongings (such as sewing on a button, stitching up a hem, or mending a punctured bike tire). They do not handle complex repairs, thus ensuring that professional repair shops remain unaffected, and they guide people to local repair experts for more intricate fixes.
