PETITION RAISED TO SAVE RICHBOROUGH HOUSEHOLD WASTE RECYCLING CENTRE

Home / About Ramsgate / News / PETITION RAISED TO SAVE RICHBOROUGH HOUSEHOLD WASTE RECYCLING CENTRE

19 September 2023

A group of concerned Sandwich residents, supported by Ramsgate Town Council (RTC), are organising a petition drive to protest the potential closure of the Richborough Household Waste Recycling Centre. The event is scheduled for Saturday, September 23, from 10:30am to 2:30pm, with a table set up at the corner of Queen Street and High Street in Ramsgate.

Emmet Csuka of Sandwich Town Council will lead a small team who will be collecting signatures during this event. The group has obtained permission from the Thanet District Council (TDC) for this street collection.

Background:
Kent County Council (KCC) is currently considering cost-cutting measures within its Household Waste Recycling Centres network, aiming to address a budget shortfall exceeding £55 million. Unfortunately, Richborough Household Waste Recycling Centre has become a prime target for closure as part of these budgetary measures. The residents of Sandwich and Ramsgate are strongly opposing this decision, asserting that it prioritizes financial savings over the best interests of the local community and the environment.
