News / A Message from the Mayor of Ramsgate - March 2022
With the good news that Ramsgate has secured much needed funding from Central Government, I am hopeful that even though we continue to face many challenges in 2022, with the injection of new funds into our area, the growth and development of Ramsgate will continue to bring in new business and prosperity to our town.
Thanet District Council secured a Levelling Up Fund grant of £19.84m; other funding secured was the Future High Street fund of £2.7m and the High Street Heritage Action Zone funding of £600,000 for shop front and commercial frontage repairs. Thanks go to all who worked hard for this funding.
Along with funding for the town, St Augustine's church secured a £250,000 grant from the Government's Cultural Recovery Fund towards repairs. Thanet District Council (TDC) was awarded £25,000 to preserve the Pulhamite Rocks at Madeira Walk and Albion Gardens, which are an important part of the town's heritage. These rocks were invented by James Pulham (1820-1898) and installed between 1887-94.
Thanks to the hard work and funds from Ramsgate Town Council, we were able to install the beautiful Harbour Street Gate, which has received much positive feedback.
This year, Ellington Park will be open for more events, such as last year's Halloween party, Christmas fair and the wonderful carol singing which, I was proud to have attended as Mayor, along with hundreds of residents. I look forward to attending more of the many events which will be happening all over Ramsgate in the coming months.
I would like to thank all those who continued to attend my monthly litter picking events, especially when the weather was bad. Your efforts were not wasted. I am so pleased to see that local schools are also taking pride in their local surroundings by joining my events. This activity takes place on the last Thursday of the month at 11am at The Salvation Army, where I donate litter pickers for volunteers to keep.
With 2021 behind us and a new year ahead, I would like to thank my PA Kim Hobbs for organising all my events, all at Ramsgate Town Council and the Technicians, for their kind support.
I will continue to work hard on your behalf as your Town Councillor and District Councillor. I also look forward to again representing and promoting Ramsgate as your Mayor.
