Ramsgate Litter Forum Update - March 2021

2020 was a challenging year for us all – but Ramsgate people are resourceful and found ways to keep busy, not least by litter picking on their daily walks!

As a result, the #RamsgateROAD (Ramsgate Residents One A Day) Facebook group, where individuals commit to picking up at least one piece of litter every day, now has just short of 450 members – so that’s nearly 165,000 fewer pieces of litter on our streets in a year!

That said, we know there’s still a lot to do out there – so ensure you use litter bins for rubbish and dog mess, and if they’re full, take your litter home. It is more important than ever to keep our lovely town looking clean and tidy.

If you spot fly-tipping or other street cleaning problems, you can report them to Thanet District Council via their website at www.thanet.gov.uk/services/clean-streets

For those people who were disappointed by the last-minute cancellation of 2020’s Great Ramsgate Spring Clean, there’s good news.

Keep Britain Tidy have announced dates for 2021’s National Spring Clean (and moved it back in the hope that organised events will be able to take place by then). So please save the dates and let’s hope we can go ahead this year!

The Great British Spring Clean 2021

Building on five years of success, KEEP BRITAIN TIDY (KBT) is delighted to announce the dates for its sixth annual mass-action environmental campaign, the Great British Spring Clean.

In 2020, our outdoor spaces and places have mattered to us more than ever before. They have been a sanctuary during challenging times, and from 28 May 2021, KBT will be calling on hundreds of thousands of #LitterHeroes from across the UK to join in and show some love for those special places that helped us though lockdown.

We have moved the campaign dates a little later in the year than usual, as our great nation starts to recover from the pandemic.

And whether life has returned to normal, or whether we are still taking precautions to protect ourselves and others, KBT will provide all the advice and support necessary for everyone to safely take part in the Great British Spring Clean 2021.

So grab your litter-pickers and get ready — 2021 is going to be our biggest year yet!
