Starting from this Sunday, April 14, Ramsgate Town Council is thrilled to announce the upcoming launch of two exciting community initiatives: the Repair Café and the Town Shed. These projects, long-awaited and diligently planned by our Climate Change Task Group, represent our commitment to sustainability and community engagement.
The Repair Café endeavours to assist residents in managing living expenses while reducing waste by offering repair services for household items. Skilled volunteers will be on hand to aid with fabric repairs, furniture restoration, bike maintenance, and IT troubleshooting. This initiative not only promotes resourcefulness but also contributes to our environmental efforts by diverting items from landfills.
Operating as a pop-up event on the second Sunday morning of each month until July at Radford House, the Repair Café will provide a welcoming space for residents to access repair services and learn valuable skills. We extend our gratitude to our dedicated volunteers and our Community Engagement and Events Organiser, Suzy Humphries, for their efforts in bringing this project to fruition.
In tandem with the Repair Café, we are excited to introduce the Town Shed, a communal space where residents can share woodworking and DIY skills, collaborate on projects, and create useful items for the community. Supported by Broadstairs Town Shed, this initiative aims to build upon the talents of our community members and foster a sense of camaraderie.
The Town Shed will convene fortnightly on Monday mornings at Radford House, offering opportunities for skill development and social interaction. Led by its members, the Shed encourages participation from individuals of all skill levels who are interested in woodworking and creative endeavours.
Both the Repair Café and the Town Shed initiatives reflect our dedication to promoting sustainability and community well-being. We invite all residents to participate in these projects, whether by seeking assistance at the Repair Café or joining the collaborative spirit of the Town Shed. Together, we can make a positive impact on our environment and strengthen the bonds within our community.
