News / Kent Police Update - July 2024
Summer is well and truly here, and we hope that everyone is enjoying the good weather!
I would like to take this opportunity to highlight the issues concerning e-scooters, as from speaking with the public, there seem to be many who are unsure on the legalities surrounding them.
E-scooters most definitely divide opinion; however, whether you are for or against them, the current law means that they are unlawful to use in public. Some local authorities have e-scooters to hire, which are legal to use on public roads, however Thanet is not currently running such a scheme. As a result, if a person is seen to be riding an e-scooter, they are committing an offence and the scooter may be seized under S165 of the Road Traffic Act.
Please contact police on 999 in an emergency or via 101 or the Kent Police website for non-urgent reporting.
As always, we would like to hear from you about any issues you are having; vulnerable persons living your area and any reports of outstanding community work that have been done. We truly believe in working in partnership with the local community to achieve the same common goal of:
Creating as safe, clean and caring community that we can be proud of and for others to aspire to.
