05 April 2024

A £3.33 Annual Increase for a Band D Property was approved

Ramsgate Town Council approved its budget and precept for the year 2024/2025 at a meeting on the 31st January 2024 and a 4% increase was approved. This means that for a Band D Property, the annual payment will go up from £82.26 to £85.59, an increase of £3.33 (or 28p per month).

The precept will increase from £1,000,437.00 to £1,060,602.00. The increased sum is not solely due to the tax increase, there has also been an increase in the tax base (there’s more properties than there was last year contributing to the rates).

The Council has increasing costs due to inflation, however, fortunately inflation is now predicted to be lower than it was four months ago when the budget preparation work commenced. This includes costs that residents will also be familiar with for running properties e.g. electricity/gas/insurance/repairs and maintenance/etc. The Council has made some internal savings in order to offset these increases.

There are also additional and new budgets for things that the Council would like to do, that tie in with the strategic objectives of the Council; things that the Council believes will make improvements to Ramsgate.

Here are the key changes to be aware of (variances of over £5,000.00):
  • A new Town Promotion New Projects Budget has been created.
  • The “Events Fund” grant pot has been increased by £11,000.00
  • The Council has reduced its own Events Budget and the New Years Eve Fireworks Display will not take place this year, instead we are looking at smaller events throughout the summer.
  • The Climate Change Task Group now has a budget of £7,500.00 for projects.
  • The Community Services Budget, for supporting organisations like the Citizen’s Advice Bureau, has increased by £10,000.00.
  • The Council continues to make savings for capital projects such as Radford House.

For reference, Ramsgate Town Council’s precept is around 5% of the combined rates bill for Ramsgate.
