Maritime Museum 23.06.2014
Thank you to everyone who came to Clock House Museum’s first exhibition – "Ramsgate’s Harbour" - launch party yesterday evening.

Thank you very much to those of you who gave so generously to the Ramsgate Heritage Harbour Events Fund. We raised a wonderful £101.52, which means we will be able to develop future activities more effectively. All monies are deposited in a special account held and reported on by the Ramsgate Society, which is a registered charity.

If you have any photos from the event, please post them on social media – tagging #clockhouseramsgate. There are a few up already and do go to the Ramsgate Recorder and like and comment on their fab video: https://www.instagram.com/reel/C_kf3TlMmYh/. And please do follow the Museum’s posts at @clockhouseramsgate on Instagram and clockhouseramsgate on Facebook, if you haven’t already. Social media engagement helps get the Museum on the map and can have a direct positive effect on future funding.

If you didn’t manage to make it to the launch party, please do come along to see the exhibition – every Friday, Saturday and Sunday, noon–5pm until 6th October in Arch 6 on Military Road.

The exhibition has been made possible through the Ramsgate Heritage Harbour Working Group, which has members from organisations across Ramsgate. The Royal Harbour achieved the prestigious national Heritage Harbour status in July: https://www.maritimeheritage.org.uk/heritage-harbours/about-heritage-harbours.

The Heritage Harbour festivities, including the Clock House Museum exhibition, are the first of many events and projects planned for the next few years to celebrate the history and heritage of the Royal Harbour (the only one in the world) and the Ramsgate’s Conservation Area – one of the largest in the south east.

A big thank you to:
  • Thanet District Council Regeneration Team for the loan of Arch 6 for the exhibition and support with printing and set up
  • Thanet District Council Tourism Team for all their help with the communications and promotion
  • Ramsgate Town Council for support with publicity materials
  • The Ramsgate Society (who run the Ramsgate Heritage Harbour Working Group) for the support of the Clock House Museum 2024 audit project and management of Heritage Open Days for Ramsgate
  • Barnsole Vineyard for the donation of their superb Dry Reserve white wine
  • Ramsgate Heritage Harbour Working Group members, including Ramsgate Little Ships and Ramsgate Tunnels for their bottle donations
  • Ramsgate Working History for donating food and soft drinks.

A huge thank you to all the Clock House Museum volunteer curators for all their hard work over summer. And, of course, to the Clock House Museum Curator himself, Rob Warren, who has so kindly lent his time, skills and many years of museum experience, and without whom, none of this would be possible.

We think you will agree – we had an amazing time. We looked at, and talked about, 44 objects in and on 6 cases/plinths – many of which have never exhibited before. We consumed 1.5kg cheese, 1kg grapes, about 90 mini gherkins, 3 bottles of ‘Royal Harbour Water’, and almost 100 ‘glasses’ of wine. Of the food, only a handful of olives remained, and any bottles left over have been carefully stored away for next time …

Until then, we don’t have everyone’s email address, so if you passed the invitation on indirectly, please forward this on to them. If you’re one of those people and didn’t sign up on the paper list at the event, have been forwarded this email, and would like to be included on future updates on the Clock House Museum and other Ramsgate Heritage Harbour projects, please write to heritageharbour@ramsgate-society.org.uk and we will add you to our mailing list.
