News / 100 years of Bowling at Ramsgate
Ramsgate Bowling Club has a fully packed diary this year to celebrate 100 years of bowling.
Lawn green bowling has been a feature of the area that we now know as the Royal Esplanade of Ramsgate since 1924. The club has seen a varied and interesting life and is still prospering today with over 100 members. The original clubhouse was built in 1924 alongside that of what we now know as the Ramsgate Croquet Club. The club was initially men only.

The ladies section of the club was formed later in 1949. The two sections on the club ran alongside each other until as late as 2007 when the two sections were unified to form one club.
The original building is still in use today and is a Grade II listed building. As the club has grown over the years extensions to the clubhouse have been built culminating in the present building completed last year. The new extension was built entirely by club members and formally opened by our oldest club member Alan Tilley in April this year.

The club members and committee would like to take this opportunity to thank Ramsgate Town Council, former mayors Trevor Shonk and Raushan Ara for their support alongside many organisations and members of the public (too numerous to mention individually) who helped the club financially to make the building of the clubhouse possible.
We are a vibrant and inclusive club, welcoming any new members as well as visitors alike. The club also holds an annual open tournament each year in August and still attracts competitors from all parts of the country.

The club is open to everyone from 10am – 4:30pm weekdays and 10am – 2pm weekends. We would love to meet you.
