Totally operated by Volunteers with no previous experience relating to the sea, they will be fully trained and our role will be safeguarding those persons in, on or near the sea.

We are the National Coastwatch Institution Ramsgate and became a presence in the Town in August 2023 by the attendance of our Exhibition Trailer at the main Beach of the Promenade. Our Organisation has 56 Lookout Watchstations around the Coast of the UK operated entirely by Volunteers of which there are approximately 2,600 to date. Our 30th Anniversary will be in August 2024.

Our role is to be the 'Eyes Along the Coast' and the purpose of our Organisation is the preservation of those persons on, in or near the sea. We operate very closely with HM Coastguard and the RNLI, together with other Organisations who are part of the Search and Rescue Service within the UK.

We resurrected the role carried out by many HM Coastguard Stations that were closed in the mid 1990's and following a tragic event within the weeks following these closures when two Commercial Fishermen drowned, therefore our Organisation was born.

We rely totally on public donations and the support of Commercial Businesses in order to continue our role. Volunteers do not require any previous experience of the sea, they will be fully trained by our qualified, experienced Staff to carry out the role.

Our aim is to install the first Lookout Station in Thanet upon the Cliffs at Winterstoke Gardens, but we will require sponsorship to achieve this, which is a normal procedure for our Organisation. Furthermore, we envisage to create further Lookout Stations, at potentially Margate and Broadstairs.
