Alderman William Coleman

Years Elected: 1905, 1906, 1924, 1925, 1928

History:
Born Hastings, Sussex, where he had local government experience.

Came to Ramsgate to set up business as a baker and confectioner,
having premises in High Street and King Street.

1. 1900 became a member of the Town Council. Elected alderman
in 1907.

2. Believed in the development of St. Lawrence Cliffs scheme.

3. When Ramsgate Harbour controversy was raging he was one
chief exponent of the bill (Harbour Bill).

4. Interested in town school boy football and presented a trophy
to the sport.
Vice-president of Ramsgate St. George's Cricket Club, active in
local operatives and Dramatic societies.

5. Member of masonic Lodge-Royal Navy Lodge of Freemasons
No. 429 occupying the chair in 1908. Founder of St. Lawrence
Lodge, member of Lewises and Holmesdale lodges.

6. Held commission during the war on Kent Volunteer Corps.

7. Twice married, died leaving his second wife a widow, also
left 10 children (5 from each marriage).

Died at home, 'Kingscliffe' Park, Road. January 1934.
