History:
January 1958 made freeman of the Borough after 30 years service
there in.

Rev. Harcourt Samuel said at the freeman ceremony;
"combined with your passionate love for justice is an equal love for
mercy."

Fellow of the Institute of builders, he was chairman of the directors
of Grummant Brothers Ltd, and was active in business up to the
time of his death.

One of the original directors of the St. Lawrence Cliffs Estate, also
a director of Nethercourt Estates Ltd.

President of Ramsgate Athletic Football Club; deputy-chairman of
the League of Friends of Ramsgate Hospital.

Co-opted as a member of publicity committee in 1928, joined the
council in 1935, was elected to aldermanic bench in 1945.

He resigned in July 1957 because of ill health, and underwent
major surgery.

He became thanets Water Board Chairman in 1956 when it was
first established.

Also a member of Thanet Divisional Education Executive, and
was chairman of the governors of Chatham House and
Clarendon House Grammar Schools.

Greatly interested in the work of Ramsgate Hospital, and a
noted fundraiser for various local charities.

He was also involved with many local groups and activities. Was
a Freemason of the St. Lawrence Lodge.

Died at home, leaving a widow and a son.
Died 15th February 1960 aged 73.
