History:
For the town, the Mayor and Mayoress (Mrs. J.H. Clutton), contributed
to numerous charities (often secretly). Gave 50 guineas to the New
Hospital.

Well acquainted with the workings of business which he applied to his
duties, not wasting a penny of rate payers money.

Choice of Mayoralty of the coming year has fallen upon Councillor J.H
Clutton - Invitation to Mr Clutton to accept the office practically
unanimous.

Showed keen interest in the welfare of the town. President of the
Ramsgate chamber of Commerce, he done much to further the
advancement of the town. Every scheme that has been made for the
towns prosperity has had his substantial support.

Generous donor to local charities and subscribed liberally to the
various funds that have been started for different objects in the
town. Was president or vice-president of most of the sporting clubs
in town, and a supported of the many societies that were connected
with the social life of the town.

In politics a prominent conservative. His name was suggested a few
years previous in connection with the Mayoralty but objection was
raised that he was not a member of the council.
