/ Ramsgate Twinning Association
Ramsgate is twinned with Conflans (France), Chimay (Belgium), Frederikssund (Denmark).
Ramsgate Twinning is run by the following people:
The Current Mayor (President)
Councillor Trevor Shonk (Chairman)
Mary Watts (Treasurer)
We arrange visits between the twinned countries.
There is a youth program in August in Chimay and we are trying to arrange with local Ramsgate schools to have a contingent of young people to go for up to a week to be involved in sports, art, music and learning about the towns and what they can do.
This is open to exchange visits, also attending will be a party from Hanau in Germany who are Twinned with Conflans.
Visitors from Conflans and Chimay are planning to come in May to play Petanque in Ramsgate. They range from teenagers to older people. There is no age limit on playing Petanque.
We will be going to Conflans, 30km from Paris to attend a ceremony called the Pardon which is a service quite like our Armistice Day. This takes place at the Arc de Triumph in Paris with a buffet later at Conflans Town Hall.
All members are invited to book a place on the coach from Ramsgate to Conflans.
We hold Coffee mornings and other fundraisers to attract new members, which we would make very welcome. The pictures are of Councillor David Green as Mayor greeting French Visitors from Conflans, the cup that is played for at Petanque and young Petanque players from Conflans having a go at Tai Kwondo at Ramsgate Sport Centre.
We have a party of 40 children and some adults coming to Ramsgate for a day from Chimay in Belgium on the 2nd May. They will hope to see the Maritime Museum, Manston Spitfire Museum, Hornby Hobbies and Dickens House before they return home.
