History:
Two prominent qualities which were beneficial to Ramsgate:
1. His optimism, which had helped to get people through war time.
2. Dauntless Courage, superb in maintaining spirits.
A man of quick decisions and always willing to do good for the area.
Served on the Watch Committee during his 1st year in office, (When
the war was ragging) taking responsibility for safety of Ramsgate and
always staying cheerful.
Announced the signing of the Armistice in November 1918.
He said "the town had to go ahead and he had helped in every single
way he could".
Helped by his wife in his mayoral duties. Established National Kitchen
with support from local ladies.
He also organised victory celebrations.
Tried to secure compensation for the town to help repair war damage.
Had a liason with press, which helped to create bumper seasons for the
town.
He also tried to revive the flagging fishing industry.
