11 September 2026

We’re excited to share that our Fruit Tree Offer is returning for Spring 2027! For just £5, residents can apply for a fruit tree to plant in their front garden, while community groups can request trees for suitable shared spaces*

This initiative forms part of Ramsgate Town Council’s Climate Change Task Group action plan, supporting more local tree planting, biodiversity and food growing across Ramsgate, while giving residents a practical way to take climate action at home.

Thanks to the support of Youngs Nurseries, each tree comes with a stake, fertiliser, and planting instructions – making it simple to grow and enjoy your own fruit. Available varieties include apple, cherry, pear, and plum.

Please note: You must be a Ramsgate resident and this round is open to new applicants only. If you received a tree in a previous scheme, you cannot apply again. To manage demand fairly, we’ve introduced a waiting list for new residents wishing to join.

To join the waiting list visit bit.ly/RTCFruitTrees

The deadline is Thursday 31 December 2026, or once 100 applicants have been reached, whichever comes first.

How it works:

  • Priority will go to residents of Ramsgate (one tree per household).
  • This year’s scheme is capped at 100 trees and will operate on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • If trees remain, community groups may apply for multiple trees for open spaces.
  • Applicants will be asked to complete a short form and share a photo of where the tree will be planted.
  • A disclaimer will confirm responsibility for managing fallen fruit.
  • The Council may follow up in 6–12 months to hear how the tree is progressing and to help monitor the impact of the scheme.

Why front gardens?

  1. Trees at the front of homes help absorb traffic fumes and improve air quality.
  2. A front-garden fruit tree makes it easy to share with neighbours and friends – though this is optional!

Collection & Planting:

Distribution will take place in early 2027, with pickup dates and locations announced closer to the time.

Don’t miss your chance to join this fantastic project, grow your own fruit, and make our community greener!

*If the £5 contribution is a barrier, please let us know — support may be available so that cost does not prevent residents from taking part.
