News / Ramsgate Town Council steps in to care for smaller green spaces across the town
Ramsgate Town Council has agreed a new Open Spaces Management
Agreement with Thanet District Council, giving the Town Council responsibility
for looking after a number of small green spaces around the town that are often
overlooked.
Under the agreement, Ramsgate Town Council will maintain several
“pocket parks” and seating areas across Ramsgate, including Eastcliff
Bandstand, St Laurence, Broad Street, Cavendish Street, the Pugin Bust area and
Albert Court. These are small but important spaces used daily by residents and
visitors.
The areas will remain owned by Thanet District Council, but
Ramsgate Town Council will now take on day-to-day care such as grass and shrub
maintenance, ensuring the spaces are clean, safe and welcoming, and managed in
an environmentally responsible way.
The agreement runs for five years and ensures that:
- The spaces remain open and freely accessible to the public
-
Wildlife and biodiversity are protected
-
Maintenance is carried out without the use of herbicides or pesticides
-
Safety and accessibility are prioritised
Ramsgate Town Council will work closely with Thanet District
Council’s Open Spaces Team and will report issues such as fly-tipping or
vandalism where necessary.
This arrangement reflects Ramsgate Town Council’s commitment to
improving the everyday environment of the town, focusing not just on major
projects but also on the small, well-used spaces that contribute to residents’
quality of life.
