Welcome to Radford House!
Previously the Fire Station in Ramsgate’s Effingham Street, this well-known historic building was bought by Ramsgate Town Council with a legacy from Mr Radford. The money was left for the benefit of Ramsgate and its community.
From April until October this year, Radford House is being opened for ‘meanwhile use’ – using the time before its renovation takes place. The Council is providing the various rooms and the main fire station hall for use by the public, by groups, by individuals – by our community. If you need to hire an office space, a room to hold meetings, to run classes (exercise, history, art, anything!), a hall to run events or even a party, just get in touch.
This time will give the Town Council the chance to find out what works and what doesn’t, who needs very affordable spaces in the town centre, what different types of events work in this building, what does our community need from a ‘hub’ and how should we plan for the future of this lovely historic building?
Radford House was built it 1736, as a lodge in the estate of Effingham House, owned by Admiral William Fox. Carriages were kept where the fire engines took over, until their move to new premises in 2018.
