News / St. Mark's Church Update
Exciting plans for the future of the church have received a boost from Ramsgate Town Council Councillors in the Northwood Ward.
The church has a Community Hall with a stage area the same size as the Winter Gardens and it seats around 200 people.
When news of the closure of the Winter Gardens became a reality, the Church Leadership team met with their Councillors, Rev. Stuart Piper, Lynda Piper and George Rusiecki, to share with them their hopes for the future.
These include a major upgrade of the Community Hall facilities.
Mr Kevin Spain of St Mark’s Church said: “Thanks to a generous £6,000 donation from the Councillor’s ward allowances, these works will be taking place over the next few months. Several local arts and performance groups have expressed an interest in supporting the project, which will involve a refit of the stage doors and upgrading the sound and lighting systems to enable multiple usage of all available facilities. This will allow the building to be used for arts and entertainment and also conferencing functions.
This grant will be match funded along with other funds the church has already raised and will ultimately allow the building to become self-financing. We are aiming to provide access for youth film/theatre and local performance groups and amateur dramatic societies for the benefit of our local community and arts groups. The church is excited to be serving the community in new ways.”
The Northwood Councillors; Rev. Stuart Piper, Lynda Piper and George Rusiecki had been looking for a community project to support using their ward allowances, which they receive as Councillors serving Ramsgate Town Council and are delighted to be helping St Mark’s with this wonderful project.
