After the recent downpour, the streets of Ramsgate are sparkling. Long may it last.
Some of our council initiatives are bearing fruit, but it is slow progress. The Chair of Planning and Infrastructure has kept up a barrage of complaints to Kent County Council (KCC) about the blocked drains everywhere. At last, KCC have agreed to check and clear the drains yearly - as they should do.
However, keep the complaints coming so that we don’t get flooded if there is ever more rain.
The Civic Pride scheme enabled the councillors to talk to many local businesses about the area immediately outside their premises and the majority were already on board with this. Most businesses are continuing to take care.
Councillor Huxley and Councillor Makinson had a walk along the East Cliff with a local resident who is quite distressed by what she perceives is an air of dereliction, until you get to the beautifully maintained Winterstoke Gardens. The concerned resident also pointed out the state of the gates to George IV Park which could do with a bit of TLC. We promised to pass all this to Thanet District Council who are the responsible body. However, money being so short in all local authorities, what can happen is limited.
One good idea was to ‘adopt a flower bed’. There are a number of very neglected flower beds along East Cliff and we thought that local people might like to take one over to plant and maintain. Ramsgate Town Councillors could be approached to give some money for planting.
If you are interested in doing this, please contact Councillor Huxley,
